Julian’s House provides a nurturing environment for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The primary purpose of the instructor position is to deliver life skills training, facilitate socialization, and offer community-based habilitation services to clients.
Duties would include but not limited to the following:
- Help maintain a neat and orderly environment.
- Help prepare and adapt instructional materials and room displays.
- Help with inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment, and supplies.
- Provides supervision and assistance to assigned individuals to ensure their safety and well-being.
- Assists with daily living activities and assistance in the areas of personal hygiene, meal preparation, socialization, and domestic (housekeeping) activities.
- Able to complete reports and/or documents routine and unusual events including completing daily logs.
- Maintain confidentiality.
- Participate in staff development training programs, and special events as assigned.
- Regular and reliable attendance is an essential job function.
- Attend scheduled staff meetings.
Ensure the safety of the program participants by participating in required monthly fire
drills, AED training, CPR training, etc. and assisting in maintaining an organized and
orderly facility.
- Assist Lead Instructor in developing meaningful activities for participants.
- Work with staff to ensure the building maintains a professional and clean appearance.
- Ensure the safety of participants during travel on the bus and community outings.
MUST HAVE:
- Passion for others, integrity, great attitude, and good moral character.
- Ability to maintain a flexible schedule.
- Follow all rules and regulations regarding client’s participant protocols, supervision, and safety.
- Reliable transportation with insurance a must.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Ability to pass criminal and caregiver background check.
- Proof of high school graduation/GED equivalent.
- Minimum one-year experience working with individuals with
intellectual and developmental disabilities.
- Flexible and able to adjust daily routine.
- Demonstrate effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrate a professional appearance and attitude.
- Ability to work as a collaborative team member
- Driver’s License with clean driving record
Working Conditions:
- Light lifting and carrying, frequent bending, and stooping.
- Work with frequent interruptions.
- Maintain emotional control under stressful situations.
- May be requested to work occasionally after hours and attend meetings.
- May require attending to hygiene and self-help needs of Participants in emergency situations.
